With the generous donation by The Toronto Transit Commission, we've secured this retired bus to convert to a mobile unit that will offer a hot shower, laundry facilities and a street kit.
The bus will be towed from the TTC garage to an undisclosed location where it will be completely stripped.
With the help of dedicated designers, contractors and engineers, the bus will be transformed to a functioning mobile unit which will include two separate shower stalls, a washing machine and dryer, and a private bathroom.
Our goal is to launch the first HOW mobile shower and laundry service by late spring or early summer of 2018.
While we will be offering clean clothing donated by generous and compassionate people like you, having a laundry service will go a long way in helping people who want to keep their belongings clean but do not have access to washing facilities.
Homelessness is a crisis that does not discriminate and can happen to anyone of us, at anytime. Providing a street kit to those living on the street could be the difference between life and death, especially in the winter months.
Toronto experiences a high rate of extreme cold weather deaths every winter. The street kit will provide essential items, which will help the most vulnerable against the bitter cold, and will include the following:
